2026 Festival

Three days in Vancouver

Opening night plus two concentrated program days across the Space Centre for people ready to talk about AI like adults with imaginations.

Fall Retreat

Depth layer

A smaller room for trust, values, facilitation, partner readiness, and the questions that need a slower fire.

Future editions

Details to come

Future edition details will be published when confirmed.

Messaging pillars

Honest AI conversation

Critique in one hand, curiosity in the other. No booster/doomer cosplay, no forced consensus, no sales-floor fog machine.

International destination

Vancouver is the host city, not the boundary. This is an international festival worth crossing a border for, booking the room, and staying for the weird good conversations afterward.

Premium room quality

A high-trust Space Centre gathering where people meet more than once and the conversation can keep moving.

Festival, not conference

Artists, engineers, educators, ethicists, filmmakers, founders, students, policy people, and community builders sharing questions and practical work across disciplines.

Build what lasts

Community proof, culture, and practical work turn attention into something sturdier than a hot take.

Festival copy

Copy blocks that are already claim-safe.

These are the clean defaults for web pages, decks, press notes, and sponsor previews. Edit for context, not for fake certainty or beige little sentences that sound like they were raised in a dashboard.

Campaign hooks

Useful lines with a little voltage.

Hook 1

The most honest AI conversation happening this year. No hype. No panic.

Hook 2

Bring your questions. Bring your doubts. Bring the part of you that still wants this future to be human.

Hook 3

No hype. No panic. Just real people shaping what comes next.

Hook 4

Vancouver is the host city. The conversation is international.

Hook 5

Not a conference. Not a sales funnel. A festival for people with receipts, doubts, tools, and taste.

Hook 6

Three days inside the question everybody else keeps trying to monetize.

Hook 7

Critique and curiosity, under one roof, with the whole Space Centre awake.

Hook 8

For people who are appropriately freaked out and still willing to build.

Hook 9

No booster rally. No panic room. Just the people who have to live with what gets built next.

Hook 10

A Space Centre gathering for artists, engineers, educators, ethicists, filmmakers, founders, students, and the stubbornly awake.

Short description

Futureproof Festival of AI is an international AI culture and ideas festival, coming to Vancouver October 28-30, 2026, for the most honest AI conversation happening this year. Presented by the BC + AI Ecosystem Association, built for people who want more than a sales pitch and less than a panic attack.

Boilerplate

Long description

Futureproof Festival of AI is an international AI culture and ideas festival produced by the BC + AI Ecosystem Association and born from Vancouver's grassroots AI community. From October 28–30, 2026, the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre fills with people making AI, questioning it, teaching it, turning it into culture, and living with the consequences. Critique sits beside curiosity. Practical work sits beside film, art, and an honest conversation about what AI is doing to public life.

Outreach blurb

Futureproof Festival of AI is the most honest AI conversation happening this year: an international AI culture and ideas festival, born in Vancouver, for people building, questioning, governing, filming, teaching, and living through the AI shift without pretending it is either magic or weather.

Typography + composition

These are live specimens, not lookalikes. They inherit the same font roles and classes used across the festival site.

Two voices. One editorial rhythm.

Display type specimen

01 / Display

Live role

Big ideas need room to breathe.

Cormorant Garamond carries the invitation, the provocation, and the main editorial turn.

Body type specimen

02 / Body

Live role

Inter does the grounded work: clear enough for logistics, warm enough for an invitation, and quiet enough to let the idea lead.

Use the body role for explanations, practical details, and longer reading.

Futureproof field note

Caption type specimen

Live role

Context and credit belong close to the thing they explain.

Keep supporting context compact, legible, and visually secondary—not microscopic.

The mono role is reserved for paths, filenames, and technical details that should read as tools.

Composition in practice

Make hierarchy visible.

We use responsive relationships, not a rigid spacing chart. Let type, rules, and unequal columns establish the reading order; let the layout stack naturally when the viewport or the reader's text size asks it to.

Editorial split

Let a small orientation line and a large idea occupy different amounts of the field.

The room should feel intelligent before anyone says a word.

02

Signal ledger

Reading order

Use rules and changing column weight to organize facts without turning everything into a card.

Logo system

Real marks, clean surfaces, no generated text.

Use transparent PNGs for compositing and opaque PNGs for press previews, reference decks, and fast partner handoffs.

Minimum rule: the wordmark should never feel like a caption. Give it space, preserve contrast, and composite the official BC + AI mark separately.

EvidenceExpression

Proof has a camera. Atmosphere has a paintbrush.

Both belong in Futureproof. They just do different jobs, and the audience should never have to guess which one they are looking at.

01 · Documentary / evidence

Show the room as it was.

Real photographs carry the people, place, and awkward little sparks that make a gathering true. Let them be specific. Let them stay human.

  1. 01Carry the photographer credit wherever the image travels.
  2. 02Crop for the format, never to rewrite who was present or turn an attendee into an endorsement.
  3. 03Do not fabricate, extend, or retouch the room into something that did not happen.
02 · Expressive / generated art

Make the argument visible.

Our painted festival world can carry metaphor, tension, weather, and a useful amount of weird. It is campaign art, not a receipt for real attendance.

  1. 01Use art to express a question or atmosphere, never as documentary evidence.
  2. 02Do not invent a recognizable person, speaker endorsement, crowd, quote, or event moment.
  3. 03Protect the salmon, raven, night-field, and hand-painted character before squeezing the work into a generic crop.

Voice and palette

Deep wisdom, sassy swagger, no hype.

Keep the voice civic, strange, warm, practical, and brave. The visuals can glow; the copy should keep its boots on the floor and its eyebrows slightly raised.

Use

  • The most honest AI conversation happening this year.
  • critique and curiosity at the same table
  • international AI culture and ideas festival
  • Vancouver as the host city, not the boundary
  • festival, not conference
  • build what lasts
  • bring your questions, bring your doubts, bring the part of you that still wants this future to be human

  • appropriately freaked out and excited
  • human agency under pressure
  • actual people, actual data, actual places

Use Carefully

  • Use public-interest as a credibility pillar, not the lead hook.
  • Use innovation only when there are receipts.
  • Use premium for room quality, not velvet-rope posturing.
  • Use swagger only when the claim has proof underneath it.
  • Use community for real relationships, not audience acquisition.
  • Use human-centered only when attached to a concrete choice.
  • Use the three-day format as a confirmed fact, not as fake scarcity.

Avoid

  • inevitable-future hype
  • generic tech conference language
  • AI-generated brochure cadence
  • cliche bravery words with no specific consequence
  • public-interest framing as the lead brand line
  • city-public-square framing as the lead brand line
  • unsourced urgency or availability-pressure language
  • raw meeting language on public pages
  • fake generated BC + AI marks

Calls to action

Buttons are verbs, not jewellery.

Futureproof has two working action families. Pick the family for the context, then let primary and secondary establish the choice.

If it does not go somewhere or do something, it does not get dressed like a button.

Big public moments

Campaign calls to action

Use these when the next move carries the campaign forward: tickets, submissions, press, or a major jump through the festival story.

Copy festival language
primarycampaign-cta campaign-cta-primary

One consequential move per decision area. The primary is the sentence's verb, not confetti.

Download the marks
secondarycampaign-cta campaign-cta-secondary

A useful alternate route with less visual pressure. It still needs a clear destination and a real job.

Tools, forms, supporting routes

Utility and form actions

Use the quieter pill family inside forms, planners, error states, and supporting navigation where the task matters more than the campaign moment.

Open usage rules
primarybtn-primary

Use for submit, save, retry, or the dominant task inside a compact tool or form.

Read claim rules
secondarybtn-secondary

Use for back, cancel, download, or a supporting route that should remain easy to find.

Interaction contract

Clear before clever.

These states already live in the site CSS. Keep them when an action moves into a new layout; do not recreate them with a third component family.

Focus
Keep the visible sitewide keyboard ring. Campaign actions deliberately turn it up another notch.
Pointer
Hover is feedback, never meaning. Campaign lift runs only for hover-capable fine pointers.
Touch
Keep a 44px minimum target. Campaign actions grow to 48px on coarse pointers.
Pressed
A one-pixel press is enough. The interface should acknowledge a click, not perform a small musical.
Reduced motion
Transitions collapse sitewide; campaign actions also stop hover and active movement.
Do
Use real exported logo assets for all readable marks.
Place Futureproof Festival of AI first and BC + AI as presenter unless the context is organization-first.
Give the dot-matrix mark generous breathing room.
Use generated art for atmosphere, plaques, frames, and blank signal fields.
Use the confirmed Oct 28-30 date and H.R. MacMillan Space Centre venue; keep sponsor, speaker, vendor, protocol, and inventory claims tied to confirmed public facts.
Do not
Do not retype the Futureproof Festival logo in a site font.
Do not publish generated text as a final readable mark.
Do not let the BC + AI presenter mark become a generated approximation.
Do not compress the logo into dense art or low-contrast fields.
Do not imply pass inventory, sponsor commitments, partner commitments, vendor commitments, or protocol participation before they are real.
Public-claim safety

Say the bold thing. Do not invent the facts.
