Futureproof Festival of AI 2027 / Design field note

A common alphabet, printed in ink

The Festival’s visual language begins with lettering that has weight, and a field of forms that rewards a closer look. The relationship between a solid letter and an open space gives the family its structure.

Field note

Start with the letters

B1 Cut blocks leads the shared Futureproof identity. Its P and R bowls remain solid; its O counters stay open. Those specific choices are part of the vector lettering, alongside the horizontal, stacked and compact forms. B2 Open forms remains in reserve.

The Nested square makes another kind of space visible. Three outlines sit within one another, held apart by clear gaps. It is one of four round-five motifs carried forward unchanged, together with Offset bars, Figure in aperture and Paired peaks. Their names describe their construction.

Let the field stay varied

Christopher Quinn’s supplied references bring together figures, inhabited lettering, landscape fragments and changing geometric notation. The 2027 direction keeps that eclectic range in view. A single symbol does not have to carry the whole identity.

Seven selected vectors provide a precise set of forms. The round-six A choices add Block chevrons, Unequal discs and Three facets to the four unchanged masters. A separate natural-history illustration adds fine raster detail when useful. It stays optional and incidental within the larger field.

Keep the material and the source distinct

Ink and paper give the Festival its expression: dark forms, a warm reading ground and a dense arrangement of marks. The same shared lettering and motif geometry also belong to the Retreat, where the material expression becomes prismatic. Changing the palette does not require redrawing the alphabet.

The originals supplied by Christopher are the references. The selected vectors are new interpretations developed with Codex for Futureproof; the engraving and later composition studies are new AI-assisted work generated with imagegen. Keeping those credits separate is part of understanding how the family was made.
