01 / Why gather
Make space for a better question.
Technology moves quickly. Understanding what it means takes company, attention and a little time.
The Retreat makes room for creative practice and serious conversation about AI, the work we do and the worlds we want to make.
Come with curiosity and something unresolved. The intention is to leave room for listening, trying things and finding the questions that deserve more of us.
Three places to begin02 / A field of possibilities
Different ways in.
Something shared.
A few questions to carry into the gathering. Open one and see where it leads.
01Who changes the way you see?
A different practice can open up a familiar problem. Artists, researchers, educators, organisers and people building things have plenty to learn from one another before they agree on the right vocabulary.
Keep the practical questions in view02What are you still working out?
Bring the question that is not ready for a polished presentation. A rough idea, an experiment or a disagreement can be a useful starting point for work that continues beyond the gathering.
Keep the practical questions in view03What becomes possible together?
The interesting part is often between disciplines: a new way to describe a problem, a collaborator you would not otherwise meet, or a small practical thing worth trying next.
Keep the practical questions in viewThe intended rhythm
Ways to spend the time together, rather than a fixed timetable.
Bring an unfinished question
Start with something you are still working out: a creative experiment, a difficult decision, a tool you are making or a question about how AI is changing your work. A polished presentation is not the point.
Listen, try something, compare notes
The intended rhythm makes room for conversation and hands-on exploration. Someone from another discipline may notice an assumption you have stopped seeing. Leave space to change your mind as well as explain it.
Find what is worth carrying home
A better question, a small experiment or a new collaborator can be more useful than a grand declaration. Think about what you could continue in your own practice and what would benefit from staying in conversation.

Design field note
The same forms, a different light
The Retreat shares the Futureproof alphabet with the Festival. Its different mood comes through prismatic colour, quieter reading space and the relationship between a figure and the opening around it.
