Vancouver is worth the trip.

Start with the Space Centre, plan your arrival, find a place to stay. The extra Vancouver days can come after that.

What's the festival about?
Futureproof Festival is three days of AI thought leadership, education and creative practice for professionals shaping how these systems are used. Six threads connect the program. Community: a festival that grew out of the Vancouver AI Meetup, and Gabe Zaro on what holds a community together. Creativity: the opening-night creative AI live set, Mayumi Rollings on an animation studio that uses AI everywhere and refuses to lose the artists, and Kevin Friel on filmmakers who stop waiting for permission. Ethics: Sara Blenkhorn on who owns what we build, and Michael Running Wolf on Indigenous language reclamation and who owns the future those tools make. Resilience: Andrew Zolli at the scale of the whole planet, and Brewster Kahle on what a library owes the people who aren't born yet. Education: Stephanie Dick on who got to decide what counts as knowledge, and Shane Gibson on asking better questions than the machine. Empowerment: Alexandra Samuel on working with the thing, and Ben Shneiderman, who wrote the book on human-centered AI, closing the festival. The aim is a deeper understanding of AI and a stronger basis for the decisions ahead.
Who is Futureproof Festival for?
For professionals making consequential choices about AI: business leaders and founders, researchers and technologists, educators and public servants, creative directors and independent artists. If you build, fund, commission, teach or govern work that AI is changing, this program is for you. You don't need to write code or arrive convinced. Students and emerging practitioners are welcome too.
What will I walk away with?
The program is designed to deepen your understanding of AI's capabilities and limits, strengthen the questions you ask about adoption and governance, and introduce creative approaches beyond your own field. Bring a challenge from your work: the talks, audience questions and conversations give you different perspectives to test it against.
Is this the U.S. Future Proof Festival?
No. Futureproof Festival of AI is the Vancouver event presented by the BC + AI Ecosystem Association, October 28-30, 2026 at the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre. It is not the U.S. wealth-management Future Proof Festival.
Will Futureproof Festival return after 2026?
Future edition details will be shared after they are confirmed. Right now we are focused on October 28-30, 2026 in Vancouver.
Why three days?
The 2026 festival brings opening night and two program days together at H.R. MacMillan Space Centre. That gives you time to connect research, policy and creative practice, question speakers, and consider how the ideas apply to your own decisions.
What does my ticket include?
One ticket, all three days: opening night on October 28, the full program on October 29 and 30, and the closing party. There is no separate closing ticket and there are no single-day tickets. If it is on the festival program, your ticket covers it.
What does the CA$950 pay for?
The public festival ticket is CA$950 and covers all three days: opening night, both program days, and the closing party. The program connects AI research, human-centered design, governance and creative practice, with keynotes, focused talks and audience questions. Your ticket includes the full program. Active BC + AI members receive 25% off at checkout.
Do I need to attend all three days?
The festival ticket covers opening night Oct 28 and program days Oct 29–30. There are no single-day tickets.
Can I attend virtually?
No. Futureproof Festival 2026 is an in-person event at H.R. MacMillan Space Centre in Vancouver; there is no virtual attendance option for the 2026 festival.
What are the current ticket prices?
The festival ticket is CA$950, and it is the only public ticket. Promotional pricing ended August 22, 2026. Active BC + AI members receive 25% off at checkout. Tickets are available at luma.com/futureproof-festival.
How does the BC + AI member discount work?
Active BC + AI members receive 25% off, applied at checkout rather than through a code posted here. Membership itself is handled by BC + AI at bc-ai.ca. If you are already a member and the discount is not showing up, email hello@bc-ai.ca before you buy rather than paying full price and asking us to fix it after.
Is there a student rate?
Yes, CA$250 for all three days, and it is the same festival everyone else is at. There is no student button at checkout: email hello@bc-ai.ca from the address you want the ticket issued to, and bring a valid student ID to registration. That is the whole check.
Are taxes or checkout fees added to the Luma price?
Prices are in CAD. No separate tax or checkout fee is added to the price shown on Luma. Checkout is handled on Luma.
What do I receive after checkout, and how do I check in?
After purchase, the Luma confirmation email links to the QR ticket. The ticket is also available when signed in to Luma, in the Luma app, or in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. At check-in, staff can scan the QR code or look up the attendee by name.
Is Futureproof Festival of AI all ages?
Futureproof Festival of AI is all ages. Attendees under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Children under 6 must be supervised by an adult at all times. Alcohol service is 19+ only.
Can I refund or transfer a ticket?
Refunds have closed. Transfer requests are accepted from September 1 through October 27, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific. The original purchaser must email hello@bc-ai.ca from the purchase email address with the recipient's full name and email. The organizer will reissue the ticket without a fee, and the recipient must complete registration. For a same-person name or email correction, update your Luma profile. Checkout is handled on Luma. Full terms are on the terms page.
I'm traveling from out of town. What happens if my plans change?
Refunds have closed. Transfer requests are accepted from September 1 through October 27, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific. The original purchaser must email hello@bc-ai.ca from the purchase email address with the recipient's full name and email. The organizer will reissue the ticket without a fee, and the recipient must complete registration. Book the parts of the trip you can change. Flights, places to stay, and getting from YVR to Vanier Park are on the travel page.
Is the Call for Talks still open?
No. The 2026 Call for Talks closed on August 15 after 119 submissions. We read every proposal, and every person who pitched gets a personal answer.
Can I help as a volunteer?
We are building the volunteer plan now. Tell us what you are good at and when you are available. If there is a fit, the team will confirm the role, timing, support, and what participation includes before you commit.
Is there a creative AI performance?
Yes. The opening-night creative AI live set features artists performing with AI as their instrument, from generative visuals to live-coded sound. The closing party carries that energy into Friday night. Both are included with every festival ticket.
Is food included?
Yes. Opening night includes hosted sushi and dessert, plus alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Thursday and Friday include hosted breakfast sandwiches, fruit bowls and coffee, plus lunch on both days. Thursday and Friday dinners are on your own before any evening activities. The Friday closing party includes hosted food and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Menus and dietary details go in the attendee guide.
How do I get to the venue?
H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, 1100 Chestnut St in Vanier Park. The #2 and #32 buses stop nearby, False Creek Ferries dock right at Vanier Park, and it's an easy walk or ride over from Granville Island. From the airport, budget about 35 to 45 minutes by Canada Line plus a short connection, or a direct rideshare.
Where should I stay?
Our recommended hotel is the Sylvia Hotel, a Vancouver classic on English Bay about 10 minutes from Vanier Park. Call 604.681.9321 or book at sylviahotel.com. Kitsilano / Granville Island, Downtown / Coal Harbour, and Mount Pleasant are the most useful neighbourhoods, and the /travel page breaks them down: Granville Island Hotel is the closest characterful option, Pan Pacific anchors downtown, and Sandman Signature Olympic Village is a solid value pick.
What should I do the day before or after the festival?
The travel page lists BC + AI's certification days before and after the festival: Responsible AI Professional and the AI Animation & Filmmaking Accelerator. They use separate tickets and other venues; the festival ticket does not cover them. If you have an extra day, walk the Seawall through Stanley Park, visit Granville Island Public Market, or spend time at the UBC Museum of Anthropology.
Are all venues wheelchair accessible?
The festival is anchored at H.R. MacMillan Space Centre, and the venue's public information lists accessible entry and accessible washrooms. We will publish seating, room routing, and mobility notes closer to the festival. Email kk@bc-ai.ca with specific needs before the festival so routing, seating, and support can be planned around you.
Will sessions be captioned?
Captioning is not confirmed yet. If captions, a transcript, or other access support would change your day, email kk@bc-ai.ca before the event and we will reply.
Does the festival have a Code of Conduct?
Yes. See /code-of-conduct. It covers all festival spaces, evening events, and online spaces. It applies equally to everyone at the festival: ticket holders, speakers, sponsors, and organizers.
What about the Vancouver AI Meetup?
The regular Vancouver AI Meetup at H.R. MacMillan Space Centre runs on its own monthly schedule. The May 27, 2026 meetup opened festival registration; the October festival still runs as its own Oct 28-30 program.
Is there a group or corporate discount?
Yes. Group pricing is available for teams of five or more on the same booking; it's handled directly rather than through a public code. Email hello@bc-ai.ca with how many tickets you need and who they are for, and we'll sort you out. One piece of advice from running these before: teams get more out of it when they split up during the day and compare notes at night, rather than moving through the festival as a block.
Do I need a visa to attend as a US citizen?
No visa required. US citizens need only a valid passport to enter Canada. Other nationalities: check the IRCC website for your country's eTA or visa requirements. Most Western countries enter visa-free or with a quick online eTA ($7 CAD).
What's the weather like in Vancouver in late October?
Cool and overcast, occasionally rainy. Typical Pacific Northwest fall. Expect 8–14°C (46–57°F) during the day. Bring layers and a waterproof jacket. It's rarely cold enough for a heavy coat, but an umbrella or rain shell is essential.
How far is Vancouver from major cities?
Seattle: ~3-hour drive or 45 min to Bellingham + shuttle. San Francisco: ~2.5-hour direct flight. Toronto: ~5-hour direct flight. New York: ~6-hour direct flight. London: ~9.5-hour direct flight. YVR is well-connected and easy to get in and out of.
Where do I find press assets?
The /press page carries the press kit: speaker graphics, copy-paste blurbs and links, boilerplate, dates, venue facts, and selected images. For interviews or anything the kit doesn't cover, email kk@bc-ai.ca with your outlet and angle.
How do I become a sponsor?
Email the partnerships crew at kk@bc-ai.ca or use the sponsor form on /sponsors. Presenting, Anchor, and Supporting Sponsor packages are open for the 2026 festival, and we will build custom pieces once we know what you need.
What is included in the Startup Exhibitor Package?
The CA$2,000 package includes two full festival tickets, a demo table and two chairs on Thursday and Friday, standard power and event Wi-Fi, a linked profile on the site, and a promotion kit of festival artwork you can reuse. Inquiries are open at /startup-exhibitors; purchases are final and non-refundable.

Why Vancouver

One of the great cities in the world, in October.

Vancouver sits where the Pacific meets the mountains, a city that manages to be both walkable and wild. Late October is shoulder season: the summer crowds are gone, the mountains start getting snow, and the city is doing its own thing. It rains. Bring a jacket. It's also exactly the right setting for three days of good conversation about what's happening to all of us.

The festival takes over the Space Centre for three days, and the city around it is worth staying for. Great food, a serious coffee culture, one of the continent's best urban parks (Stanley Park, 400 hectares, right downtown), and a short drive to the kind of mountains that remind you the tech industry is a very small part of a much bigger story.

Arrive early, stay longer

Two certification days before the festival, one after.

Separate tickets, through BC + AI, in other buildings across town. The festival ticket does not cover them; the festival program is on the program page.

While you're here

Beyond the festival.

The festival ends Friday Oct 30, and Saturday Oct 31 is Halloween in Vancouver. Some of this fits a spare afternoon; the rest is worth staying the weekend for.

Stanley Park & the Seawall

One of the great urban parks in the world: totem poles, beaches, forest, 30 minutes on foot from downtown. The 22km seawall runs the whole sea edge of the city. Walk it, or rent a bike and loop Stanley Park to Olympic Village in about two hours.

Granville Island

Public market, breweries, artist studios. 20 min walk from downtown, or hop the Aquabus across False Creek.

North Shore mountains

Grouse Mountain gondola or the Capilano Suspension Bridge if you have a weekend morning. 30 min from downtown.

Photo: Vancouver, BC

UBC Museum of Anthropology

Essential context for the land acknowledgement work that runs through the festival. One of the best First Nations collections on the continent. 30 min from downtown by transit.

Whistler / Squamish

90-minute drive north on the Sea-to-Sky Highway, one of the most scenic drives in North America. Squamish has proper granite, trail legs, and mountain air. Whistler village is worth a stroll even before ski season opens.

Victoria

BC Ferries from Tsawwassen to Victoria: a 1.5h crossing, beautiful on a clear day. A very different pace from Vancouver. Good for a full day or overnight.
