About Peter-Lucas Jones
Peter-Lucas Jones is CEO of Te Hiku Media, an iwi broadcasting organisation and technology hub in Kaitaia, Aotearoa New Zealand. He leads work on te reo Māori speech recognition, speech synthesis and pronunciation tools, connecting language revitalisation with Indigenous data sovereignty. Te Hiku Media's Papa Reo platform powers Kaituhi, an automatic transcription tool, while Rongo helps people practise their pronunciation. Named to TIME's 100 most influential people in AI in 2024, he asks who controls language data, who benefits from it, and how technology can help a language keep living between generations.
