About Michael Running Wolf
Michael Running Wolf is a computer scientist who builds AI for Indigenous language reclamation, and chairs the IndigiGenius board of directors. A citizen of the Northern Cheyenne with Lakota and Blackfeet family ties, he grew up in a prairie village in Montana with intermittent water and electricity, then engineered Amazon's Alexa and taught at Northeastern University. He co-founded First Languages AI Reality (FLAIR), now run with Mila, which is working on speech recognition for endangered languages that needs far less recorded audio and respects data sovereignty. He also co-founded the Lakota AI Code Camp for Native teens and founded Indigenous in AI/ML. Now in Vancouver and working on a McGill PhD, he builds language technology on the community's own terms.
