About Dr. Angelica Lim
Angelica Lim is an associate professor of computing science at Simon Fraser University and director of its ROSIE Lab, short for Robots with Social Intelligence and Empathy. A Canada CIFAR AI Chair, she builds AI that reads facial expressions and tone of voice, so robots adapt to how people communicate instead of the other way around. Earlier she led the Emotion and Expressivity teams for SoftBank Robotics' Pepper humanoid robot. She has pictured robots as kind and compassionate since she was little, and she tested that at home: she and her husband lived with one for six months, and she hosted the French documentary about it. Most of us are only now finding out what that is like.
